Title:Designing and Prototyping Embodied Interactions for Mind-Body and Interpersonal Connection
Date:2026/4/30 13:30-14:40
Location:R101, CSIE
Speakers:Prof. Rong-Hao Liang
Host:鄭龍磻教授

Abstract:
This talk explores design and prototyping at the intersection of tangible and body-centric computing. We examine a shift in human-computer interaction: moving away from monitoring the body and toward engaging it as a sensing, feeling subject. By leveraging physical forms, embodied cognition, and existing somatic skills, we can create deeper mind-body and interpersonal connections.

I will present this through several case studies, including BioFidget (ACM CHI ’18), which transforms fidgeting into respiration training, and MindFlow (ACM DIS ’25), which provides virtual embodiment and biofeedback for anxiety reduction. We will then revisit techniques that utilize body-centric interaction as a medium for interpersonal communication, such as Body-Centric NFC (DIS '22) and Gaze-to-Body (ACM CSCW '26). Finally, the talk reflects on recent computational toolkits (ACM TEI '26) for tangible computing, highlighting the challenges and opportunities in democratizing the design of embodied interactions.
